The early European dollhouses were each unique, constructed on a custom basis by individual craftsmen. The industrial revolution changed all that. Factories began mass-producing toys, including dollhouses and their furnishings. A major German company in the trade was the Gottschalk Werke GMBH.

Peter Riches Dolls House

Miniaturist Peter Riches is planning his first world cruise after a Canadian fan spotted this 23-room dollhouse online and purchased it for $82,000. The 1:12 scale, 10-bed miniature has its own servants’ quarters, a music room with grand piano, a hand-crafted games room with snooker table and a library with over 1,000 separately bound books. It took Peter Riches a painstaking 15 years to complete.

Art Deco Needs More Love

I am not sure why we don’t see more art deco miniatures. It’s a wonderful era for dollhouse enthusiasts. You can have all the shiny, colorful objects you want. Flamboyant murals or stylized images from nature. Almost anything goes, as long as it’s declarative and streamlined.
