A Cabinet Of Curiosities

The term cabinet was originally used to describe a room rather than a piece of furniture. A “Cabinet of Curiosity” could contain collections of unusual items: fossils, scientific studies, oddities gathered from newly discovered lands. These rooms were often lavishly decorated, the treasures displayed in a setting designed for their maximum effect.

The Kaleidoscope House

Larry Mangel founded Bozart Toys, Inc in 1996 to provide artists the opportunity to design affordable children and “kidult” products. Mangel was a former gallery director who had exhibited the works of Andy Warhol, John Chamberlain and other members of the Pop art school. His goal was to produce artful toys and furniture that were visually stunning, yet useful.

Sara Rothe-Two Dollhouses Not Enough

Sara Rothe had two cabinet dollhouse: one a replica of her town home; the other of her country place. But even that was not enough. In April 1743 she bought 3 more at auction for 1000 guilders. I’ll leave it to you to figure out how much that is in today’s money. A lot, anyway. This one is probably the town house, on display at the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem, The Netherlands. If anyone knows for sure, please let me know. The following are bits from Wikipedia I compiled.
